EMERGENCY INFORMATION

In the Nantahala River Gorge, the road following the river can be a deceiving convenience. While rescue workers will have easier access to an emergency than on many other rivers, particularly isolated rivers such as the Chattooga, you still need to be prepared. Your cell phone may not work in the exact location you are and you cannot always count on a car driving by when you need one. Treat a Nantahala adventure as you would any other in a mountainous location. Plan ahead and be prepared to be self-sufficient, at least initially.
